Electric utility trike / three-wheelerfolding low-step framerear cargo basketfront cargo platform

I like the idea: an affordable cargo trike with space for real shopping and equipment. But my test unit had problems I can't brush aside: weak brakes, awkward handling and a folding-frame latch that opened while riding. I can't recommend it in that condition.

Verdict after testing

Carrying shopping and supplies on smooth, quiet routes - only after the faults are fixed and you've personally checked the brakes and handling.

APEFOX RH30 is a budget electric cargo trike with a large rear basket, a seat with backrest and a folding low-step frame. It carried shopping and building materials during my test, but the particular unit showed serious safety-related faults.

Handling and stability

After around 20 km I became more familiar with the handling, but uneven cross-slopes still required constant steering corrections and a rear wheel could lift in tighter turns. Three wheels do not automatically make a vehicle stable.

Brakes and folding mechanism

The mechanical disc brakes were too weak in my experience, the parking locks failed to hold the trike, and the folding-frame latch could open by itself while riding. I reported these problems to the manufacturer. The steering column also needed repeated tightening and a rear mudguard rubbed against the tyre.

Drive and range

The manufacturer states 500 W motor power and up to 75 km assisted range. The removable battery is rated at 48 V 15 Ah (720 Wh). I did not complete an independent full-range test. The bike uses a cadence sensor and five PAS levels; the throttle operated at approximately 6 km/h in my test configuration.

Verdict

It is an interesting low-cost cargo trike concept, but I cannot recommend the tested unit without the faults being resolved. Riders should test its stability and braking before considering it, particularly if they need an easy-to-handle vehicle.
